How can Cancer moons find the sense of belonging and nurturing they are looking for? We’ll give you some answers for different areas of your life like romance and profession. Bear in mind that other things in your chart are very important to get a more accurate picture of your emotional and instinctual self, such as the Moon’s house placement and aspects in your chart. If you prefer the video:

Personality

Moon in Cancer, your unfiltered, big emotions are a blessing and a curse at the same time. Cancer is an outwardly oriented water sign and the home of the moon. Here we see the moon’s purest expression of its essence.  You are highly emotional, sensitive and sympathetic towards the suffering of others. Your sense of intuition can border on being psychic, but don’t assume others are operating in the same way!

The moon has a changeable nature and this translates as you having to deal with the ups and downs which in some cases may verge on the extreme. Think of the tides rising and falling with the waxing and waning of the moon. It also simply means that you can be quite moody. You are likely to have a depth and an emotional world that others may have difficulty to fathom. This can lead to feeling misunderstood and a source of insecurity which could have you tip-toeing around issues, or using non-verbal communication to indicate your needs. Making an effort to be more direct and clear about what your concerns and issues are may help to ease some troubles you may have in relationships.

Regardless of any challenges, you are a creative, caring soul and have a desire to actively nurture others, whether they be your friends, family or partners. The desire to cultivate these bonds may get you moving around quite a bit but home really is your place of solace. Being in your space gives you a sense of being protected.

You strive to create an environment that is nurturing, relaxing, even healing and feels like home. Such an environment makes you feel safe. As Cancer is the crab there could be a sense of needing to protect yourself with a hard exterior, as exposing the softness may give a sense of being too vulnerable.

On occasions your beautiful emotions can go over the top – you then become hypersensitive, anxious, overwhelmed. This is especially the case when triggered by other’s insensitivity – you become defensive, when you feel your foundation or beliefs are threatened. But your best defence is  attack(cardinal), you use your pincers to “punish” the perpetrator – and of course we don’t mean your kitchen ones – you will use your words to pinch them or try to manipulatively send them on a guilt trip. Be reminded – it doesn’t always work and it might push people away from you.

When you are stressed out you might start worrying excessively. You might be even moodier and more anxious than usual. Alternatively you might become quite messy in your space. First it is always important to recognize and validate the emotion, make an effort to give it a name and not just feel it. To alleviate it, treat yourself to some “me” time, relax and make an effort to take care of yourself, (we know you would prefer others to notice and take care of you, but it is not always on the menu). A sauna day, where you can sweat those emotions out. A wine tasting, a dance class, sport, yoga or meditation always are.

At Work

Did we mention already that you are great at nurturing? Whatever you do you might tend to be the “office mom” – remembering everyone’s birthdays, taking care that the environment is pleasant. A place of work that feels like a second home, that allows for some bonding is ideal. That is why you would probably prefer a longer term employment, especially if you like your place of work.

What you can’t tolerate is a stressful, nerve-racking, traumatic environment. You tend to absorb the energies around you, and such an environment causes you excessive worries and anxiety.

It is also important that you can make use of your emotions in your work, put them to a good cause. Whatever work you do, it is difficult for you to stay detached and neutral. It is best to find a job with a purpose, a mission that you identify with emotionally – it can be in an actual nurturing field – nursing, kindergarten teacher, educator, therapist of some kind. You have the capacity to hold space for people so coaching or integration work could suit you.

Water Moons can be a mirror for the emotions of others – so any involvement with work connected to those might be of interest to you. Another quality of the water moons is a strong connection to intuition. This comes in handy for most professions, but working with mysticism, channelling and ritual could be something you are drawn to.

As you are also gifted with emotional memory – restoring things, history or similar might also be interesting to you. The actual choice of profession doesn’t depend solely on the moon.

In Romance and Relationships

Moon in Cancer you probably want the full package – the husband/wife, the kids, the big Christmases, the Sunday lunches, the sunset in the garden. You are highly sensitive, so you want your relationship to feel meaningful.

For you, a perfect relationship is one of mutual caregiving. You love caring for others and you expect the same in return. As a partner you will actively take care of the needs of your partner – cook for them, do their laundry, massage their feet. But sometimes you can give too much, so much that it becomes stifling to the partner.

Speaking about them – at best they are also warm, nurturing people that can offer you a sense of long term security and a feeling of belonging. But be aware of being too idealistic and setting impossibly high standards – learn to verbally express your expectations and also be accepting of what your partner is capable of giving.

If you are unhappy in the relationship you tend to accumulate anxiety and resentment, you might even feel used and not express it until one day the dam breaks and you leave your probably unsuspecting partner stunned and potentially somewhat hurt – those pincers can be quite sharp when your emotions run high. You will be wise to practise expressing your emotions verbally, your partner probably can’t read your mind quite the way you would want them to.

Water tends to go about its business wearing its surroundings down – if you tend to nagging, constantly reminding them of their responsibilities and sending them on guilt trips – it could potentially create tension in the relationship instead of making things better.  That’s not to say that what you have to share with your partner isn’t of value. Your keen intuition and instincts can be illuminating for your partner and their life so working towards an effective means of delivering advice turns it into something appreciated by the other person, rather than resented.

If a relationship agitates and overwhelms you, you might become overprotective, clingy, fall into a state of emotional hoarding – in those cases you would be best advised to find support for working through those emotions – check the story you are telling yourself and try to exchange it for more positive thoughts, talk to your best friend,  go for a retreat, and if you feel you need it – engage in therapy.

It is always good to learn to explore your own interests on occasions and derive joy from there too.

We hope you have had an illuminating experience listening to our thoughts on the moon in Cancer. Stay luminous, stay loving and see you soon.
